Goodbye SD

Dinner & pre-drinks with our SD sweeties before the big bon voyage party... Wish you all were here!

Countdown

I leave for LAX in an hour—gotta vague plan for what I'm getting into but nothing solid man this is manic! I'm feeling so much at once on adrenaline high ready charging in headfirst, hat gripped in one outstetched hand while the other's gunslingin like an explosion blocking all form to thought so I'm overcome with glittering light partly scared but mostly stoked! Stoked for what will come, what will change, hell over heaven there'll be unsurpassed excitement no doubt, and I'll race the heights just to scream out that I'm there and let the world know everything so that it'll tell me all in return to prove me wrong and guide me back to realness.

Hello there. How are you?

Bradon Young and Garrett Mincks—best friends since second grade and side-by-side the whole time: school, fraternity, three year roommates, even the same jobs, including our very first as produce clerks for Henry’s Marketplace (Bradon was 16 and Garrett was 15).

You know the saying 'opposites attract?' For us there's nothing truer. Bradon is a pseudo father figurelevel—level-headed, soft-spoken, and respectful. He thinks things through and is wise beyond his years. Then there's Garrett, the happy ADHD poster child—high strung, outgoing, whimsical, and optimistic. He's enthusiastic and curious about practically everything.

We're obsessed with music, specifically the cutting edge. Since 7th grade we've been buying and trading albums of techno, disco, rock, world, rap, classical, and eighties. Throughout 2008, we dj’d San Diego nightclubs and parties together. Bradon used the stage-name Non-Profit because of his frugal lifestyle and devotion to campus orgs. Garrett called himself Adderall because he couldn’t decide on a name. When it came time to print business cards, his bottle of ADHD meds (Adderall) was in front of him: he saw the irony, laughed, and said what the heck.

After graduating from San Diego State University (Bradon May 2007, Garrett May 2008) with degrees in Business Management, we embarked on a 'round-the-world' adventure. We spent 2 years researching, planning, and saving, and left the return date open. Our only constraint is fiscal, and we've discovered numerous ways to minimize even that.

To finance the journey, Bradon valet'd cars and interned for a real estate firm. Garrett bar-backed nightclubs and waited tables. Also, we dj'd events together. Bradon saved more than enough; however, Garrett, while he made a considerable amount, did not amply save so he took out a loan.

Many people ask what inspired us, but to be honest, there was no real BIG inspiration. We just want to explore the world, or as Garrett says attend the 'global classroom.' As recent grads, we figure right now is the best time to go—no family, no real-life responsibility, and the whole world in front!
